| Neighborhood Watch Program Update Our first official Neighborhood Watch Program was held Tuesday evening, Jan 22, 2008. It proved to be a very enjoyable and informative discussion. Sgt. Jim Kocijanski of the Washoe County Sheriffs' Office led the introductory discussion. Additional videos and handouts regarding tips on better securing our homes against burglars was also provided. We are now officially a " Neighborhood Watch" group! However, there is MUCH work yet to be done in order for this Program to be truly successful. We are asking the residents of Galena 1 for their support in this endeavor. With the newly constructed Sierra Summit Mall, new homes under contruction and other plans for the Mt. Rose corridor, the potential for crime increases. This is unfortunate. However, established Neighborhood Watch Programs across the country, have proven to be extremely effective deterrants to potential criminal activity. Although we look out for our neighbors daily, this Program teaches additional skills in what to be looking for, how to relay this info properly to Law Enforcement personnel, and taking the steps necessary to learn how/ when / where / why criminals are targeting certain locations. As a neighborhood group, with future signs to be erected, we are firmly stating to any potential criminals " GO SOMEWHERE ELSE!".....It really does work as statistics have proven. This is our opportunity to be pro active in protecting our homes and our loved ones. Please voice your support and help us make this Program a success. Please do not hesitate to call me with questions , concerns and / or ideas you may have to promote the success of this Program. My tremendous thanks to those neighbors who attended the first meeting. Your ideas, enthusiasm and support are very much appreciated. Further details will be provided to all Galena 1 residents in the very near future. Thank you for your time and consideration. Sincerely, Maureen McKean # 849- 1824 |
| Mt. Rose Scenic Corridor Update 1/31/08 From the Editor: This update is copied in its entirety from the email update sent by "Save Mt. Rose Scenic Corridor." There are a number of important meetings coming up mostly on what is called the Forest Area Plan, this is the 'master plan' governing growth and related issues for much of the Mt Rose, Galena area. The proposed update plan was what we called, "The DevelopersDream ComeTrue Plan" and we have finally got the county going on holding hearings and meetings. Please pass the word and plan to attend. See attached flyer, we plan to have a booth on February 9th. Your help is needed. Feb 9th: Galena High School, 9 AM to noon, Forest Area Plan and other growth issues. Various county reps should be on hand. See attached flyer. Feb 14, Thursday, Monthly CAB, 7 PM, yellow library, Forest Area Plan should be on agenda. Feb 23, Saturday: Joint CAB & Planning Commission Meeting on Forest Area Plan, likely at 9th & Wells but location and time not certain. This is important! April 15, Tuesday: Possible final meeting on Forest Area Plan, tentative, VERY IMPORTANT If you have questions about the issues, please visit our website: www.MtRoseScenicCorridor.com Reynen & Bardis: Estates at Mt Rose: We are not happy with the land & sagebrush that has been cleared from the north side of Mt Rose Highway. With the housing slump, we are wondering what will happen now. How long can this potential dust bowl sit empty? We understand that Reynen and Bardis is struggling and we don't wish ill will on anyone. If you have information on any of these issues please let us know. Easements: Thanks to Assemblyman Ty Cobb for responding to our request for a legal opinion on the Small Tract easements that affect many of us in the area. You might be surprised to find you have these on your property, you might want to check. Contact me for further, I have sought legal assistance on this. There are new laws on easement abandonment and one of our neighbors recently successfully accomplished this on his property, congratulations. 1200 New Homes: We have not heard any more from Matera Ridge. Nothing new on their website. Last we checked they were in litigation with a neighboring property at the end of Fawn Ln. If anyone has an update, let us know. How can you help: pass the word on the meetings, get involved. Hand out flyers or employ your kids to help (safely). If you want to donate to the cost of a banner or flyers please let us know. Thanks to the un-named citizen who donated $500 to our website. Save Mt Rose Scenic Corridor savemtrose@earthlink.net www.MtRoseScenicCorridor.com 800-554-9519 |
